Dreaming of a designer-decorated room? Or perhaps your home is ready for bigger overhaul. Whatever the case, you don't have to go to design school to create a chic, comfortable living space of your own. Today's top interior designers including Jeff Andrews, Susana Simonpietri, Brian J. McCarthy and Bernie de Le Cuona have shared their style tricks; here's how you can apply them in your own home.

Be Bold With Paint

Internationally renowned Los Angeles-based designer Jeff Andrews has decorated the homes of celebrities from the likes of the Kardashians to America Ferrera, Ryan Seacrest and Michael C. Hall. Known for pushing creative boundaries in a way that redefines traditional designers, Andrews is one of the most sought-out designers in the industry today. But you don' have to have an A-list budget to make your home look like a celeb abode.  Andrews says that paint is the proverbial "rabbit in the hat" when it comes to transforming the look of a room. He doesn't shy away from dark colors and neither should you. Dark colors don't make rooms feel uninviting or small, in fact, it's quite the contrary. Paint can be used to accentuate the architectural details of a room for added drama, and when used correctly, dark paint hues can open up a space. When going dark, Andrews recommends choosing a paint with a sheen finish, this way light can bounce around the room. A white-colored ceiling and ceiling rug can anchor the room, giving your living space a warm, celeb-chic appeal.

Accessories Are Key

Creative director at New York's Change & Co, Susana Simonpietri believes that every room needs a variety of table lamps, beautiful throw pillows and carefully selected artwork. When on the job, Simonpietri takes design cues from her clients' personalities. Take your own personality into consideration when decorating your living spaces. After all, it is your home, style it accordingly. The easiest ways to incorporate a little personality into a space is with accessories like throw pillows, table lamps and artwork. Take inspiration from your favorite things and start there, and combine the textures and colors of each item to bring it all together for an effortless look.

Incorporate Unexpected Furniture

There's more to living room furniture than full size loveseats and sofas. Often overlooked, the ottoman can be a true style statement for your living space. Ottomans can be used as a cocktail table, a stylish foot rest or even as a storage option for unused blankets, throws and pillows. These multipurpose pieces are the most versatile and usable piece of furniture, says UK-based textile designer Bernie de Le Cuona. They can work in any room of the house, bedside for a table lamp or cup of coffee and even in the bathroom, she says. Brian J. McCarthy, a designer based in New York City, uses ottomans to layer a room, keeping their multipurpose function in mind. Additionally, ottomans give you a way to work color into a room. Other ideal locations to place an ottoman are at the end of a bed or in a walk-in closet, both of which provide a comfy place to sit while pulling on shoes or getting ready for the day.
